Is an MD-PhD right for you?

Is an MD-PhD right for you?

For those students interested in both research and clinical work, deciding whether they should pursue the physician scientist track is a critical decision. The physician scientist training program, also known as an MD-PhD, is a long-time commitment. Not only that, but preparing to apply for a PhD or MD-PhD looks quite differently. So, knowing if an MD-PhD is right for you is an important question you should be asking early. In this episode, we interview Dr. Brian Sweiss from Mount Sinai College of Medicine who offers his advice on how to make this decision. We discuss the structure of MD-PhD programs, what competitive candidates look like, and what your job might be like once you are done with training. Brian also discusses the many avenues that MD students and residents have to engage in research opportunities during their training. Listen to Nancy’s full interview with Brian in the link below!
